Lindy Vopnfjord releases “Frozen in Time”

AlbumCover web

Hello Folks,

The long awaited new album by Lindy Vopnfjord entitled “Frozen in Time” is finally here, and us here at Spherical Productions cannot get enough of its magical embracing sounds and stories that keep you captivated the whole way through, and then when the album is done, we play it again from the beginning.

If you want to buy the album, and hear the magic for yourself, you can buy it below..
Buy “Frozen in Time” here

On Halloween, Lindy Vopnfjörd premiered a video for the song “Melting” today via Exclaim – share via YouTube. The video is a collaboration between Lunenburg, NS stop motion animator Mike Gatti and Cambridge, ON award winning horror comedy short writer and director Darren Hutchings. Gatti’s brilliant, original and painstaking work, ‘Mortimer’s Monster’, was edited for “Melting” by Hutchings, who also filmed Vopnfjörd’s performance – perfect for Halloween. “Melting” is featured on Vopnfjörd’s sixth full-length album,Frozen In Time, which arrived this past Friday – purchase here.

For Frozen In Time, Vopnfjörd has once again joined forces with producer Todor Kobakov (Lights/Metric/Dan Mangan), this time recording the bulk of the album live off the floor. Additional instrumentation and vocals were added from a global cast of musicians. Vopnfjörd’s quiet confidence permeates the album, inviting the listener into his world of wisdom and attention to social consciousness, human rights, and political oppression, with tenderness. The collection of 13 songs explores an immense landscape from the common and dulcet-light, to dark, epic tales. Consistent with the magic of his live performances, Vopnfjörd plucks his acoustic guitar sensitively to songs about courageous stories of champions for human freedom, Vikings, and his love for his wife.

Vopnfjörd is a gifted storyteller who distills human experience into the vital emotions that define a moment so crisply and memorably, that the effect is stunning in its resonance. “Human” and “Far Behind” were inspired by North Korean defector and human rights advocate Yeonmi Park – her journey to escape North Korea with her mother to reunite with hersister in the South. Another song is inspired by the prison diary of Professor James Tooley, who in Hyderabad, India was wrongfully imprisoned while researching education in slums and shantytowns and advocating for poor families trying to start their own schools. “Melting” was written at the Reykjavik Folk Festival, inspired by the local Icelandic artists and the awesomeness of the Icelandic landscape. Hope, despair, triumph, and loss are feelings framed by Vopnfjörd on his sixth album.

Wax Lindy banner

Hey Folks,

Two of the Spherical artists have decided to go out West and play some shows, first, Wax Mannequin heads on a full Western Canada Tour, starting today, which is also his birthday, so if you are in Sudbury, check him out at BeerFest, which is located in front of the Townehouse Tavern, and buy my man a beer .. Wax is on right before the Pink Floyd Tribute act, which is supposed to be phenomenal to anyone who loves Floyd.

Spherical got Lindy Vopnfjord into the Artswells Festival last week-end out in Wells, BC, so we decided to get him to perform select shows on Vancouver Island for the month of August, which also includes a special Vancouver show at Slickety Jim’s with D Trevlon on Fri, Aug 19, and to to top it all off, he gets to be a part of his parents 50th Wedding Anniversary in Victoria, which is an astounding feat for two people who never fell out of love, Happy Anniversary Mr & Mrs Vopnfjord!

SP gets 10 acts into the Come Together Music Festival this weekend!!

Come Together poster

Hey Folks,

The Come Together Music Festival is a great outdoor festival that welcomes select acts on the Spherical Productions roster to perform every year, and the founder, Mark Wilson, has been a big supporter of our acts, and we really appreciate his support. This year, Mark and SP worked together and brought in a record 10 acts this May long weekend, and those acts are Dirk Quinn Band, The Donefors, Spookey Ruben, Hachey the MouthPEACE, The Dinner Belles, Kirby, Torque Hound, Jo Boudreau (Monarch Project), Clarence Clearwater (aka Kent Merkley, formerly of the Dirty Love Band), and thw debut solo show by Spherical Productions President, Joey Balducchi, with his new project ‘Tall People’.

This festival always seems to be the gateway to the beginning of the summer, where you get to share great times with old and new friends, camp in the paradise of Frontier Ghost Town just outside of the town of Durham, ON, and see and hear some of the best bands out there that will make you dance the night away, so if you have never been, we recommend you make a point of going, and experiencing what may just turn out to be an annual event for you and your friends.

The Year of Festivals for Spherical Productions

Tiny Lights Festival

Hey Folks,

As any musician knows, to perform and be part of a music festival for a weekend in the summer is one of the greatest experiences for a musician’s career, you’re guaranteed to play to a lot of people, your pay is usually a lot better than your average gig, you get to meet a lot of your musical peers, there are a lot of late night jams, you’ve helped build a bigger fanbase for your act in the festival’s respective city/town, and you’re almost guaranteed that after the festival you have walked away with a smile.

After many years of building festival relationships, this year has opened up a lot of festivals for the acts on the SP Roster, as well as some freelance acts we have had the honour to work with, and outside of still working on a bunch of other festivals, here is a list of the acts we got in to some great festivals so far this year, and it all starts today with the ‘In The Soil Arts Festival’ in St Catharines, ON.
